DREADLOCKS AMARANTH SEEDS

Amaranthus caudatus

ORGANIC

The genus Amaranthus is incredible and variable and many species and selections produce both food and flowers in abundance. We are partial to the plants that produce food, but Dreadlocks is an exceptional ornamental that is worth growing purely for the sake of observing its unique beauty.

More impressive to our eyes than the more common Love Lies Bleeding, these plants likewise have dramatically long drooping seedheads, but rather than graceful uniform strands, Dreadlocks features dense knotted imperfect locks that seem almost unreal. Even just a few healthy plants will be the talk of the garden in late summer and autumn. Plants can ultimately grow to 5', but in the Northeast they tend to be closer to 4'. We would not dare suggest cutting them because the show just gets better as the season goes on.

These seeds may be started indoors or out in spring. Sow seeds onto moist soil and just barely cover. Kept warm and moist seeds germinate within a week or so. If started indoors take care to harden off plants thoroughly before transplanting into warm soil in full sun long after all danger of frost has passed.

Packet contains at least 100 seeds.
