An improved selection of this beautiful annual named for beloved British garden writer and designer Gertrude Jekyll.

Dark saturated sky blue flowers and green ferny foliage. Sturdy stems are suitable for cutting. Grows to about 2'. Will self-sow where it is happy. Very nice in a bed with perennial Pine Leaf Pinks, which typically bloom simultaneously in early summer. Softens the edges of informal borders. A cottage garden favorite for centuries. Adaptable, but best in frequently-watered but well-drained soils.

Nigella does not transplant well and should be sown directly into the garden in early spring. Sow again in summer for extended bloom. Unique seed pods are attractive and useful for dried bouquets.
