MOSS VERBENA SEEDS
Verbena tenuisecta
Moss Verbena is a butterfly magnet. Clusters of mauve to violet flowers bloom prolifically until the first frost without aid of fertilizer or water. It is semi-prostrate and spreading, softening pathways and serving as an excellent insectary groundcover in the vegetable garden.
Moss Verbena is best started indoors. Press seed into moist soil and just barely dust with fine vermiculite. Mist generously and cover with plastic to maintain moisture. Kept warm and moist seeds typically germinate within a few weeks. Seeds do prefer to germinate in darkness. Turning off your grow lights at night is usually sufficient, but black paper can be employed as well. Germination can be slow and erratic, so be patient. Sow generously and prick out seedlings as they sprout to grow on in individual pots in bright light.
An excellent container plant, this species cascades beautifully and is a nice companion to sweet alyssum. Tough enough for the hellstrip if you're so burdened. Native to southern South America. Naturalized as far north as the southern USA. Underutilized as an annual in the north and very highly recommended.
Packet contains at least 100 seeds.
