Yellow Tufted California Poppy
Yellow Tufted California Poppy
YELLOW TUFTED CALIFORNIA POPPY
Eschscholzia caespitosa
This easy-to-grow California native is somewhat smaller in stature and generally more charming than its more-frequently grown cousin, Eschscholzia californica. Best broadcast in early spring in not-too-fertile garden soils. Mingles beautifully with Baby Blue Eyes (Nemophila menziesii). Beloved by bees, butterflies and other pollinators.
Tufted California Poppy is lightly and pleasantly scented to some noses. It will bloom in spring through early summer in most locations, and will self-sow wherever it is happy. It appreciates full sun, cool weather, and requires no fertilization and very little water.
Wildflowers are extremely variable in color, and it is especially so with California poppies, but this selection is a beautiful delicate pale yellow. Sometimes marketed in Europe as “Sundew”.
Sow seeds directly onto loose garden soil in full sun in spring. Water daily until germinated.
Flowers have a tendency to close up at night and on cloudy days, like tulips.
Packet contains at least 500 seeds.
