Casola Valsenio Sage
Casola Valsenio Sage
CASOLA VALSENIO SAGE
Salvia officinalis
An especially fragrant selection from the Giardino delle Erbe Augusto Rinaldi Ceroni in Casola Valsenio, Italy, which hosts hundreds of historically significant species and varieties common to Italian gardens in centuries past.
Foliage is substantial and lightly pubescent. Pretty enough for ornamental use, but the high concentration of essential oils makes this an excellent choice for culinary and medicinal use.
As with most Salvias, Casola Valsenio prefers to grow in dry soils in full sun. Fairly reliable perennial plants are hardy to at least zone 5. Plants will typically begin to bloom in the second year. Cutting these flowering stems will prolong the life of the plant. Purple flowers are edible and make a lovely bouquet.
Packet contains at least 30 seeds.
