Lemon Winter Savory
Lemon Winter Savory
LEMON WINTER SAVORY SEEDS
Satureja montana var. citriodora
Unique hardy winter savory from Slovenia. Sweet lemon scent and flavor, not subtle in the least. Very attractive habit: produces a nicely spreading mound of tight foliage to about 10" in all directions. Diminutive leaves are fantastic both fresh and dried. Edible flowers in summer. One of our absolute favorite perennial herbs.
Germination may be slow and erratic, so start indoors as early as possible. Press seeds into moist soil and dust with fine vermiculite. Mist carefully and cover with plastic to maintain moisture. Place pot in a cold sheltered location for a few weeks before returning to warm room temperature and bright light. North windowsills and unheated porches are probably sufficient. Prick out seedlings to grow on in individual pots in bright light at warm room temperature once they have several sets of true leaves. Transplant to warm soil in full sun in early summer. Water just until established. Growth is very slow indeed but worth the time and effort. Once established these plants are tough and long-lived. Use like lemon thyme or rosemary.
Hardy to at least zone 5.
Packet contains at least 50 seeds.
