Tagetes filifolia

This incredible little marigold truly tastes of sweet anise and is an excellent substitute for French Tarragon. Produces an essential oil that is astoundingly similar to that of actual anise seeds. Grows to just 8" in all directions. Perfect for small containers. Occasionally available as “Irish Lace" for some inexplicable reason.

Possibly the eloçacatl of the Codex Barberini. The Aztecs grew and utilized several species of marigold that are virtually unknown or at least unclassified today.

Culture is similar to other marigolds, though this species does not flower until very late autumn in the north. Best to grow in containers and bring indoors if you wish to save seeds.
