GLASS GEM CORN

Zea mays

ORGANIC & BIODYNAMIC

An incredible feat of amateur breeding, Glass Gem was bred by Oklahoma farmer Carl Barnes and stewarded by Native Seeds/SEARCH. A genepool selected from various strains of “Indian" corn that produces a broad spectrum of colors, most exhibiting an unbelievable opalescent translucence.

Sow these seeds directly into warm fertile soil in spring. Amending soil generously with composted manure is highly recommended. Plants will grow to 6'-8'. Ears range in size from 4" to 8". Allow husks to dry completely in the field before harvesting.

Glass Gem is a flint corn that may be ground for meal or even popped. These virtues pale in comparison to its ornamental value.

To maintain the integrity of this genepool, plant in blocks rather than rows, isolate from other varieties of corn by at least a quarter mile if possible, and select seed from those ears with the most translucent kernels.

Packet contains around 100 seeds.
