Bred by Dave Christensen in Montana, this corn is a genetic composite of the beloved Painted Mountain flour corn and a genepool of ancient concho corns grown at high elevation in the Rocky Mountains. Produces long thin ears with small inky violet flint kernels that grind up into a silky soft flour for cornbread and tortillas. Ideal for dry farming. Suitable for cool short seasons without much moisture. Adaptable enough to grow in all but the most damp climates, and fast to mature and dry here in the Northeast.
Sow these seeds into fertile garden soil in spring. Tolerates cool soils better than any other non-hybrid corn we have grown. Tops out around 5'-7' depending on culture. Fast growing and early to mature. Produces at least two ears per stalk. Allow to dry completely in the garden before harvesting.
An excellent selection for those that prefer the convenience of freshly ground cornmeal over the intensive effort of nixtamalizing flint corn. Perfect for gardeners in arid or mountain regions or those struggling with an unpredictable climate.
Packet contains at least 50 seeds.
