GOLDEN ALEXANDRIA STRAWBERRY SEEDS
Fragaria vesca var. semperflorens ‘aureum’
This gorgeous Alpine Strawberry features glowing bright chartreuse foliage and tiny delicious red berries borne over a long season.
These strawberry seeds are easy to germinate indoors, and can be started as early as January: press seeds onto moist soil, mist; kept warm (65-70F) and moist in bright light, seeds will germinate in a week or two, usually all at once. Transplant seedlings to individual containers when they have at least two sets of true leaves. Keep warm and in bright light until well-rooted and large enough to transplant outdoors.
Strawberry seedlings will benefit from weekly applications of very dilute organic fish and seaweed extracts.
Alpine strawberries are great tucked in along pathways in the vegetable garden. They are especially lovely with small-leaved mache that is allowed to self-sow. Golden Alexandria is a perfect companion for Labrador Violet. Grow Alpine strawberries where you will have the chance to pick them regularly. Keep several in pretty pots on the balcony or patio!
Golden Alexandria is perhaps the most striking of all seed-grown strawberries, but is somewhat less vigorous than other varieties, and will prefer a partially shaded location and regular side-dressings of compost. Hardy to zone 5. Golden Alexandria will not set runners.
Packet contains at least 50 seeds.
