MAGLIA ROSA TOMATO SEEDS

Solanum lycopersicum

ORGANIC

Bred by the late Fred Hempel before Artisan Seeds became a big deal, and the basis for almost all subsequent Artisan Seeds breeding, including our beloved Blush. Maglia Rosa has long been among our favorites for its unique shape and flavor, we always included it in our “cherry" tomato baskets at market. The more diversity the better! Just say “NO!" to boring baskets of Sungold!

Maglia Rosa produces tasty little tomatoes in both the sweltering Midwest and cool misty Hudson Valley. Subtly striped teardrop or torpedo shaped fruits have a clean sweet juicy flavor that makes them great for serving with soft cheeses or just eating by the handful. These tomatoes lack the tropical note of Blush, but are uniquely charming in their own right. I cannot think of another tomato (besides Blush) that is quite like Maglia Rosa. The “Bumble Bee" series is hardly an improvement in my opinion.

Plants are semi-determinate and small and wispy, topping out around 3' for us. They are suitable for containers and can be staked or grown in those adorable little tomato cages that can sometimes be found at Korean dollar stores, but they must have some support. Tolerant of cool nights and fairly early in the Hudson Valley. The ripe fruits do not hold at all in the heat, and picking the fruits when they are just about to be ripe, shortly after they turn pink, is advised for market gardeners.

Packet contains at least 20 seeds.
