DYER'S CHAMOMILE SEEDS

Anthemis tinctoria

Also known as “Golden Marguerite", the flowers of this Chamomile yield an excellent and easily procured warm yellow dye. It is a safe and sweetly fragrant dye that is especially appropriate for use with children.

Technically a perennial, Anthemis tinctoria is best sown each year. It will self sow if some flowers are left on the plants. If first flowers are harvested promptly, plants may produce another flush of flowers. After removing any spent flowers in the fall, compost plants or use as a nutritious mulch in the vegetable garden.

In late spring or early summer, sow seeds with a light hand onto loose garden soil. Barely cover seeds, tamp gently, and water daily until seeds have germinated. Thin seedlings to about 6" apart. Consider a row of chamomile in the vegetable garden, where it is occassionally thought to be a panacea for ailing vegetables.

This chamomile may be used in combination with Yarrow and Nettles to create a fantastic biodynamic fertilizer: steep foliage for a week or more in a bucket of clean water outdoors in full sun. May be diluted further and used to water vegetable species as necessary.

Packet contains around 300 seeds.
