PHILIPPINE COSMIDIUM SEEDS
Thelesperma burridgeanum
ORGANIC
Among the most tragically undervalued of American ornamentals, this Texas native is heat and drought tolerant and blooms over a long season in sharply drained soils in full sun. The bicolor flowers are lightly scented of chocolate, especially in the early morning hours, and are surprisingly long-lasting as a cut flower!
Philippine is a nice and compact selection of the species and tops out at around 16". Culture is similar to Greenthread, although germination is considerably easier. Though plants can be started indoors, they will be bushier and stronger if sown directly into the garden: in spring, sprinkle seeds onto warm loose soil in full sun and water regularly until germination begins. Indoors, press seeds into moist soil and sprinkle lightly with fine vermiculite. Mist generously and cover with plastic. Kept warm and moist in bright light seeds will germinate in about two weeks. Uncover promptly and avoid overwatering! Once seedlings have true leaves prick out to grow on in individual cells in bright light. Allow soils to dry slightly between waterings. Harden off before transplanting into well-drained sunny garden soils. Do not coddle. Will bloom continuously through summer and autumn, and will be especially florifierous if dead-headed or cut regularly.
Packet contains at least 50 seeds.
