VERBENA 'BAMPTON' SEEDS

Verbena officinalis var. grandiflora 'Bampton'

Named for the public garden in which it was discovered in Devon, United Kingdom, this unique airy plant features tiny lavender pink flowers all along wiry burgundy stems. Effect in the garden is magical and cloudlike. Like a dark indecipherable plume. Fabulous in mixed containers. Attractive to butterflies and beneficial insects. Blooms all season.

These seeds germinate best with stratification. Press seeds into a pot of moist soil, barely dust with fine vermiculite, and mist generously. Cover with plastic to maintain moisture and place in a sheltered location outdoors in winter. Germination will begin during the first warm days in spring. Alternatively, place potted seeds in the refrigerator for six weeks before returning to cool room temperature in bright light. Avoid heat! Transplant seedlings into flats once they have their first set of true leaves. Grows quickly in warm weather. Self-sows in our garden.

Moderately deer-resistant. Still quite rare in the US.

Packet contains at least 50 seeds.
