In search of resistance to Xanthamonas, a cause of bacterial wilt and blight, Frank Morton sourced several accessions of parsley from the USDA Germplasm Resources Information Network in 2012. Not only did he find resistance in this old landrace, but also fantastic sweet flavor and fine texture.
Hungarian Landrace Parsley has none of the metallic overtones that many Italian flat leaf parsleys have. The tender leaf makes it ideal for persillade and for tossing by the handful into brothy soups. Hardy and easily forced in a cold greenhouse. Not entirely uniform, but that is part of the charm and value of this landrace. Ideal for budding breeders.
Sow into flats several weeks before transplanting in early spring. Germinates best at cool temperatures. Do not use heat. Germination is erratic and takes place over the course of a few weeks. Seeds may also be soaked and sown directly into the garden in early spring, although we find this even slower and more tedious than starting seeds in flats. Only parsley root need be sown directly into the garden.
Packet contains at least 300 seeds.
