Lollo di Vino
LOLLO DI VINO LETTUCE SEEDS
Lactuca sativa
ORGANIC
We love growing red lettuce! It's so beautiful. But eating red lettuce.. not so much. The flavor of the prettiest red heads is too often unpleasantly bitter. The texture, too, can leave us wanting.
Discovered by Frank Morton as a rogue “frizzlehead" in a batch of Merlot, Lollo di Vino produces a compact head of dark undulating leaves with crisp hyperfrilled edges. Sweeter than common Lollos and impervious to downy mildew. A red lettuce worth growing and eating. Heads are ready in about 60 days, but these plants can be cut at any time for salad or sandwiches. Not particularly tolerant of heat. Best started in flats and transplanted in very early spring, or sown directly into the garden in early autumn.
Packet contains at least 300 seeds.
