Sanguine Ameliore Lettuce
Sanguine Ameliore Lettuce
SANGUINE AMELIORE LETTUCE SEED
Lactuca sativa
This beautiful old French variety was frequently listed in old American seed catalogs as “Strawberry Cabbage Lettuce". Sanguine Ameliore is a speckled butterhead lettuce whose delicious blanched interiors are an elegant creamy yellow splashed with pink. Fantastic as a cutting lettuce as well.
Sow seeds directly into the garden as soon as soil can be worked in spring, and again in early autumn. Head lettuces can be started indoors and transplanted: in a 72 cell flat press seeds into moist soil, barely cover with additional soil or fine vermiculite; mist; cover with plastic to maintain moisture; kept moist in bright light at around 60°F, seeds will germinate within a week. Uncover seedlings promptly. Thin to one plant per cell. Keep cool and moist in not-too-bright light and transplant before plants are rootbound.
Sanguine Ameliore can be grown successfully in partial shade. In spring, big flouncy heads are ready in about 60 days. Grow in autumn for tight blanched heads, which form best in cool weather. Can be sown all winter in mild winter climates.
Packet contains at least 300 seeds.
