Another anise-scented marigold. Used extensively by the Aztecs for medicinal and ritual purposes. Dried leaves are considered entheogenic. Striking deep golden honey-scented edible flowers in late summer and early autumn. Very worthwhile ornamental with marginal culinary use, save for the flowers which are uniquely delicious and wonderful in autumn salads and confections. Incredibly beautiful when planted en masse. Grows to around 18” in the first year and up to 3’ in subsequent years in zone 8 and warmer. Perfect for fallscaping, especially alongside Sangria Agastache.

Start indoors 8 weeks before the last frost. Fickle germinators, these seeds sometimes take up to two or three weeks to germinate at 70°F. Do not plant seeds too deeply and provide bright light. Pinch seedlings to encourage sturdy branches. Plant outdoors in full sun when soil has warmed. Best performance in moist soils, but will tolerate drought once established.
