CHAMPAGNE RHUBARB SEEDS

Rheum x cultorum

An old English variety with excellent flavor. Champagne tends to be early to break dormancy and is suitable for forcing. Makes a nice rhubarb wine. Easy to germinate indoors. Seed grown plants may be harvested lightly in the second year. Very hardy and nearly indestructible.

Start indoors several weeks before the last spring frost. Seeds germinate easily at 70°F. Prick out seedlings to grow on in deep 6" containers until transplanting outdoors into deeply trenched and well-amended soil. Keep crowns at soil surface. First and second year plants will appreciate side dressings of compost. After the third year rhubarb requires little if any attention.
