Cisineros Tomatillo
CISINEROS TOMATILLO SEEDS
Physalis ixocarpa
Our favorite green tomatillo for making fresh salsa all summer long. Big green fruits on big plants that are indeterminate and produce continuously all season. Harvest the fruits as soon as they breach the husk while still green and unripe for authentic salsa verde. Flavor is clean and tart and the perfect vehicle for heat. If allowed to ripen they will be sweet but lack the aromatic and complex flavor of Acorazonado. Harvest promptly!
Start seeds indoors around 4 weeks before transplanting into warm soils in full sun after all danger of frost has passed. The seeds germinate in just days at around 80°F and grow quickly! The plants absolutely need support at all stages of growth. Tall tomato cages are a good choice once they are in the garden, as Cisineros can grow up to 6’ in a long hot season! Like tomatoes, tomatillos will root all along the stem and can be planted very deep. If not staked or supported in some way the plants will eventually topple and root wherever they fall. Keep them off the ground.
Growers that prefer to harvest and process their tomatillos all at once should opt for compact determinate Rio Grande Verde.
Packet contains at least 30 seeds.
