COYOTE TOMATO
Solanum lycopersicum
Big sprawling disease-resistant plants will, above all else, require a big sturdy cage or trellis, and even then may seem unmanageable. Unbelievably productive, one plant will set hundreds of translucent pale yellow cherries. Taste is truly unique, with an addictive flavor that is difficult to describe. Found growing wild in Veracruz, Mexico and gifted to Tomato Man Craig LeHoullier in 1990.
Very early to ripen in ideal climates, often as soon as 50 days from transplant. Here in the Hudson Valley my first good ripe fruit appears at about 70 days, and was the first tomato to ripen for me in the cool wet spring of 2021. Fruit is frequently listed as 1/2", but in fertile soils they can be up to 1". An excellent choice for market gardeners that offer mixed baskets of cherries. One of these huge unwieldy plants is more than enough for the home gardener. Tolerates drought as well as cool wet weather. An excellent candidate for breeding experiments.
Packet contains at least 15 seeds.
