EARLY LONG EGGPLANT SEEDS

Solanum melongena

An old variety, and the progenitor of beloved heirlooms like Antigua and Tsakoniki. Beautiful thorny plants have excellent disease-resistance and produce nice long narrow fruits that are ideal for Ratatouille and for slicing lengthwise, marinating and grilling and tucking into vegan panini and bahn mi.

Easy and vigorous and ideal for cool climates. Did extraordinarily well for us in the cool wet summer of 2021. Produces reliably right up until the first frost. Gardeners in cool maritime climates that have had trouble getting a good crop of eggplant should really try Early Long.

These seeds germinate within a week or so when tucked into moist soil and kept around 80°F. Harden off thoroughly before transplanting outdoors as soon as all danger of frost has passed. In the garden these plants grow to around 3' in all directions.
