Helianthus annuus

This old All American Selections winner is an excellent choice for cutting. Tall sturdy plants produce lots of long branches. Sherbet orange petals with dark chocolate centers. Absolutely ideal for autumn displays. Not entirely pollenless, but very nearly. Flowers left in the garden will produce seeds appreciated by birds.

Sow directly into warm garden soils in spring. Thin seedlings to at least 8" apart. Grows to about 6' in fertile soils, and closer to 4'-5' in average soils. Rarely needs to be staked. Blooms in approximately 90 days. Can be started indoors, but we find that these plants are too often stunted in growth. Day neutral. Beautiful and reliable.
