SUMMER SAVORY SEEDS
Satureja hortensis ‘Saturn'
ORGANIC
The most appropriate name I've ever seen applied to this species is “bean weed". For not only is it perfect for flavoring bean soups and salads, the plants are perhaps best grown between rows of bush beans, as their potent fragrance deters bean beetles and other pests.
This organic selection from Europe is superior for culinary use as well as distillation. Plants are compact and bushy, with many more leaves than the standard varieties. Excellent aromatic flavor. Use fresh or dried. Suitable for containers. Easily grown in a small terra cotta pot.
Sow these seeds indoors or out in spring. Seeds germinate rapidly at around 70°F in moist soil and bright light. Transplant or thin to around 8" apart. Water frequently until established and then very rarely, if at all. Tolerates heat and dry soil. Mature flowering plants grow to just about 1' in all directions. Harvest frequently for best quality.
Will self-sow almost indefinitely in most regions.
Packet contains at least 500 seeds.
