BLEU DE SOLAIZE LEEK SEEDS
Allium ampeloprasum
ORGANIC
Another French leek, because the French seem to do leeks better than anyone. Short stocky plants have semi-glaucous foliage that becomes positively purple in cold winter weather. Thick dense shanks are perfect for braising. Incredibly hardy. Impervious to snow. Still best to mulch for ease of harvest.
Start leeks indoors in flats as early as January. Transplant as soon as the soil can be worked. Trench amended soil, plant deep and hill soil around stalks as they grow for the longest and most tender blanched shanks.
These winter leeks are best harvested in late autumn at the very earliest, and through the winter and early spring. Grow Jaune du Poitou for earlier harvests.
Packet contains 100 seeds.
